It's Foot Shooting Time Again

If it wasn't so serious it would be laughable.

Who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to offer the BBC a number of prestige meetings currently being covered by Channel 4? I realise it was an attempt to keep the beeb on board, but why? The corporation has made it quite clear that it does not value racing at all and personally, rather than offer it sweeteners I’d take the Grand National and the few other meetings they now cover, off them. In fact I’d rather see the BHB offer these meetings to C4 as an incentive to them to keep broadcasting. I accept that we need coverage on a terrestrial channel and many of you will recall my articles slating C4 in the past. But whatever you may think of their coverage, at least it’s there. Channel 4 themselves are not sure they want to continue and it will take another huge payment to them to ensure that they do. Actually that’s rather unfair and I fail to see how the industry can expect the BBC to cover racing for nothing, whilst at the same time paying C4 to do the same job. There is a risk that the buffoons in charge of all this will end up creating a situation whereby there is no terrestrial coverage. Then where do we go?
